Ayurveda.
The "Science of Life", a system of thought originating in the
Vedic India of 5000 years ago. A structured phylosophy, a holistic medicine,
a subtle relationship that binds mankind to Nature and the Universe. Ayurveda,
the integration of man's physical, psychological and spiritual characteristics,
the bond between mankind and his environment. Ayurveda, the Science of Life
but also Science of the Doshas, the three primary energies responsible for
the processes of birth, growth, development, decay and death. The three
forces which determine a person's individual constitution and his or her
equilibrium at every moment. Dosha that means "that which tends to
go out of balance".

VATA is unstable and irregular. Like
the Wind that arrives as a gusts and then calms, it stands for mobility,
creativity, endless horizons. In the body Vata governs the other two
Doshas, it is responsible for the movement, the nervous functions,
the perstalsis of the intestine. It is cold, dry and light. When aggravated
it attacks the vital force and energy is dispersed resulting in anxiety,
insomnia, lethargy, together with digestive and intestinal disturbances
and assimilation problems. The skin becomes cold and dry, irregular
and may have both greasy spots and dry areas. The beauty problems
are characterized by dehydration, wrinkles, lack of tone and firmness
of the tissues.
PITTA is Fire,
the force of transformation. It controls the metabolic processes of
the organism such as mental digestion, that is, the ability to perceive
things as they really are. It stands for heat, intelligence, courage
and power of discrimination. In particular it governs the digestive
system and the blood. It is hot, moist and light . When it is aggravated
it brings about an accumulation of heat, fever and inflammation. The
skin becomes particularly hot and reddens, perspiration increases.
The beauty problems caused by Pitta are inflammation and reddening
with pH variations and increases in body temperature.
KAPHA keeps things
together. It is Water, the force of stability. It controls the nourishment
of the tissues and the fluids of the body, it is the container, the
material support on which the other two Doshas rest. It represents
emotional structure and it is responsible for the accummulation and
preservation of energy. It is cold, moist and heavy. When aggravated
it causes weight accumulation in the body, heaviness, sluggishness
and depression of the digestive fire. Kapha skin is cold, damp and
pale, affected by edemas, fatty deposits and a slowing down of the
metabolic functions of the skin.
